Self-Assembled Nanomaterials for Biomedical, Sensing and Separation Applications


Dr Zink's researches are mainly about Functional Mesostructured Materials for Controlled Release, Compounds for Molecular Motion as a State Variable, Highly Distorted and Coupled Excited States, Photofragmentation and Photodeposition, Biological and Environmental Toxicity of Nanoparticles and Biological Applications of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles.

Dr. Jürgen Kosel has been appointed Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at KAUST in June 2009 where he is with the Physical Science and Engineering Division. His research interests are in the fields of magnetic devices and materials, microsystems and biosignal processing. He is head of the Sensing, Magnetism and Microsystems research group at KAUST.
Dr Jean-Olivier Durand graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris in 1990 and obtained his PhD in organic chemistry with Prof. J. P. Genêt in 1993. He held a 20 month postdoctoral position with Prof. W. Oppolzer at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). After conducting two other postdoctoral studies in Rennes (Prof. Le Corre) and Paris (Dr M. Larchevêque), he was appointed as a CNRS research director in 2012 at the Institut Charles Gerhardt in Montpellier. His research interests include the development of mesoporous silica nanoparticles for photodynamic therapy and drug delivery.

Dr. Zhihong Nie  obtained his Ph. D from University of Toronto in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Eugenia Kumacheva. Afterwards, he joined the group of Prof. George Whitesides as postdoctor in Harvard University. Since 2011 he has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Maryland, College Park. He has won MSED/LANXESS, NSF CAREER Award, CMNS Board of Visitors Junitor Faculty Award etc. He has 80 publications with over 6000 citations. His results were published in famous international journals like Science, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, JACS etc. His works have been high lightened in Nature, Science etc.
