Smart Hybrid Materials (SHMs)
Khashab Research Group
Innovatively Functionalized Nanomaterials for Biomedical, Sensing and Composites Applications

Overview

Welcome to the Smart Hybrid Materials (SHMs) lab home page. Our research efforts focus on the design, synthesis, and applications of organic-inorganic hybrid materials that are functional and/ or controllably responsive to stimuli (pH, light, magnet, enzymes….). We aim to develop systems that can be triggered on demand using self-assembly and supramolecular tools. Surface functionalization together with internal engineering of porous nanomaterials is one of the group’s major thrusts. Our systems are successfully used for probing, imaging, and controlled delivery applications. Employing efficient surface modification, these systems can be utilized in harsh industrial settings such as upstream oil exploration and recovery. Moreover, our smart materials are integrated into polymer matrices to develop smart coatings and membranes that can be used for a wide range of applications such as anticorrosion, antibacterial, and self-healing. SHMs Lab focuses on designing innovative nanomaterials that serve the ultimate goal of advancing technology. We hope you enjoy your visit. Follow us on Twitter.
